Wilderness Health Care Coordination Roundtable – Fall 2023
“Supporting the Whole Person”

On September 21st, 2023, Care Coordinators from across the Wilderness Health network gathered in Grand Marais at North Shore Health for their triannual roundtable. Wilderness Health believes that building a network of communication and resources for our members and roundtables are one avenue to information sharing and relationship building. With over 30 attendees, 20 of which attended in-person, Care Coordinators were able to nurture their systems of support within our network, gain resources, and discuss needs.

Roundtable leader, Katie Peck, wanted to focus on creating a space where these healthcare professionals could discuss openly their success, challenges, and wish list items. Wilderness Health would like to acknowledge the hardships of working in healthcare and thank our care coordinators for their dedication to patient health and care outcomes. A quote from one of the roundtable members puts into words why we all show up each day, “[It’s] a chance to make a difference or impact in someone’s life”.

In addition to an open discussion, the care coordinators also met with the Health Equity team and the Regional Behavioral Health coordinators from the Minnesota Department of Health. The first group discussed equity in healthcare, sharing personal stories from Minnesota’s LGBTQ+ community to give examples on how equity in healthcare and in our communities as a whole makes a huge difference in patient health outcomes. The second group gave their final presentation of five on trauma informed care. Both presentations highly informative and valued by those in attendance.

Wilderness Health looks forward to our next opportunity to meet with this group and collaborate on how to make the best work experience possible while maintaining patient health outcomes. A final big thank you to our care teams and all the work they do.
