Duties include collecting and receiving laboratory specimens, clerical and computer tasks, and also general laboratory responsibilities.

We provide laboratory services for outpatients and Care Center residents as well as 24/7 laboratory services for our hospital and emergency departments.  Applicants must be willing to work day and evening shifts, as well as a rotation of on-call hours, weekends, and holidays.  This is a professional position that requires a high level of responsibility.  Applicants must be reliable, self-motivated, able to work both independently and as a team, have excellent communication and multi-tasking skills, and also demonstrate quality, efficiency, and integrity throughout all aspects of their job functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: Successfully complete Student Practicum/Internship required for Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree.  Typically includes a minimum of 16 weeks of hands on training in a Hospital Laboratory Setting.  Internship must include General, Transfusion Medicine, and Microbiology laboratory experience.

EDUCATION:  Associate’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Technician, or Bachelor’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Scientist, or equivalent, from an accredited institution.  An equivalent training program that satisfies the requirements stipulated by CLIA (subpart M, section 493.1489) may be considered with the approval of the Laboratory Medical Director.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:  Eligible for and successfully complete ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) within 12 months of date of hire; or equivalent certification, with approval by the Laboratory Medical Director.

This is a paid training position to become eligible to take the National Emergency Medical Technician licensure exam and be on the state and national EMT registry. Your time will be spent split between the EMT course, computer training, classroom time, skills lab, and clinical training (unpaid) and working under the supervision of the ER Nurse, EMT, and/or Paramedic to assist with the care and operations of the emergency room and the ambulance (paid).
