Where Disciplines Meet: Putting Patients First
NSH was awarded the 2024 Minnesota Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Award at their Spring Conference titled “Where Disciplines Meet: Putting Patients First” in Brooklyn Center, MN.
Jason Yuhas, Infection Control/QIC/CIO developed a novel way of tracking antibiotic use at North Shore Health in both the hospital and Emergency Department. The tracking system demonstrates how to measure and improve how antibiotics are prescribed and used by patients. This new system showed trends which positively impacted the antibiotic stewardship program – ensuring patients were indeed receiving the right drug at the right dose at the right time.
Congratulations to Jason, with special acknowledgement to Deidre Larock-Muggley, Pharmacist, Katherine Taylor, Pharmacist, Troy Batchelor, Director of Nursing-Hospital, Dr. Severnak, Hospital Medical Director, and Dr. Terrill, MD, FAAFP. They defined the system and Jason instituted high level tracking to help manage the Antibiotic Stewardship Program in a new way.
