Advocate for Senior Care in the Human Services Budget
We are asking you to call Governor Walz, because the current budget target for Human Services does not include enough funding to support caregivers in every part of the senior services sector.
We want Gov. Walz to increase the human services budget so all care settings – including nursing homes, assisted living, adult day, and other home and community-based services – get the funding needed to ensure access to care for seniors when and where they need it.
While Gov. Walz and
leaders in his party have proposed funding for the seniors who receive care through Elderly Waiver in assisted living and adult day settings, the proposed funding for nursing homes is far too low.
The state of Minnesota has a record budget surplus. It’s the state’s responsibility to set the rates for nursing homes and the seniors who receive services in assisted living and adult day through Elderly Waiver. The only solution is for Governor Walz to adequately fund long-term care this session.
Putting pressure on the governor to increase the human services budget target is one of our best levers for influencing the final budget and increasing funding for senior services.
