We’ve been teaching our 3rd cohort of future EMTs since May and they’re doing so well!
At this point, we’ve covered everything from medical terminology, human anatomy, and pathophysiology to proper lifting, moving, and extricating patients.
We’ve, especially, been focusing on patient assessments, medical history, vital signs, airway and ventilation management, oxygen therapy, resuscitation, cardiac emergencies, respiratory emergencies, various medical and environmental emergencies, recognition and care of shock, trauma and musculoskeletal assessments and interventions, medication administration, and chest and abdominal emergencies.
As we turn that corner into a few remaining skills labs, we’ll cover pregnancy, childbirth, caring for infants and children, and special considerations when caring for geriatric patients.
Before we know it, it’ll be the end of August and our students will be taking their official skills test and their national written exam.
Let’s cheer them on!
Come September, there will be a few more EMTs in Cook County!
